It is important to prepare your home properly to ensure the installation goes smoothly. This short guide outlines the steps to get your home ready for your important project.
Short-Term Preparation
Step 1: Make Space
Installation teams need as much space as possible in order to complete their work efficiently. We ask that you move any furniture (and especially any fragile items!) away from the area and off the window sill. If you can, temporarily relocate any outdoor items such as garden decorations or patio furniture in order to prevent damage to your belongings
Step 2: Protect Your Furniture
The installation is a very dusty process! So make sure to take down your curtains and cover all the furniture and carpets in the rooms with a tarp or cloth, if you can. This simple step can significantly cut down on cleaning time afterward.
Step 3: Parking Reservation
As is the case with all installations, our team will be moving in and out of the van during the entire process, unloading your windows/doors and accessing tools. Therefore, it would be greatly appreciated whether a space for our van could be organised/reserved next to your property.
Long-Term Preparation
Please read if you are planning large-scale renovations for your home in the near future.
Our recommendation is that you prioritise replacement of windows before anything else. This includes:
New front/patio or internal doors. This is because we may need access through these doors to carry heavy or bulky items, and we do not want there to be any possibility of damage to your new doors.
New radiators directly underneath the windows.
New carpets. These cannot be removed and we know how expensive they are! Please do these last.
New bathroom/kitchen tiles. During old window removal we may damage surrounding tiles (it's a messy process!).
Painting the room. We do not paint walls after window installation (only plastering and rendering), so it is worthwhile only to paint afterward. The dust during the process may also cling to any new paint and taint the colour.
New curtains, although, of course, these can be removed and placed in a safe area.
Preparing your home for window and door installation requires some effort, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By following these practical steps, you can ensure a smooth installation that enhances your home. Happy renovating!
