Inside the Making and Installation of Our Largest Arched Casement Window

Some windows are built to fill an opening. This one was designed to define a company office building with over three storeys.

This client had even provided us with the original architectural drawings of the arched window (see below). Impressively, this structure stands at 8.5 metres tall by 3 metres wide.

The design had to work before it could look impressive

The architectural drawings may have looked simple enough, however this window was actually made up of many separate parts. And the factory worked hard to ensure that each section had the correct profile, beading and opening size.

Before the manufacturing process could even start, our team had to make the arch template, which mattered the most. A flat side can be adjusted easily, but even a small mismatch at the curve can show once the window is fitted.

Installation begins (with a deadline)

As you might guess, the installation started with the arch at the top to guarantee it fitted correctly. There were 4 large parts to install, and quickly too, as essentially the entire building was exposed to a security risk once the old window was removed.

The results

Although there was a level of protection due to the scaffolding, our team had to work efficiently. The glazing was packaged separately, so it was only after the whole frame was fitted, could we start installing individual glass units.

In the end, the window was fully fitted and decorated (silicone, plastering, rendering) within 4 days! An impressive feat, and the final video truly captures the loftiness of this project.
